Your tummy tuck surgery will begin with a discreet incision in the pubic area. Excess skin will be tightened and trimmed. Your abdominal muscles can also be tightened, and excess fat can be removed using liposuction.
The tummy tuck incision will be closed with dissolvable stitches, and a dressing will be applied.
Tummy tuck abdominoplasty surgery is performed under general anaesthetic; a full abdominoplasty takes 2 – 3 hours.
Mini abdominoplasty surgery targets excess skin under the tummy button.
Many patients consult us about a mini tummy tuck because they have a slight overhang of fat and excess skin under the tummy button. This effect can develop after a C-section or other surgery has affected the skin or the abdominal muscles.
The mini tummy procedure is less invasive than a complete tummy tuck abdominoplasty surgery and usually lasts sixty minutes.
Liposuction or tightening of the abdominal wall can be performed simultaneously as a mini tummy tuck to achieve a smooth, contoured appearance for your abdomen.
Your tummy button will stay where it is but the skin around it will be tightened and smoothed.
Tummy tuck surgery may be a good solution if you have stretch marks, slack tummy muscles, and loose skin on the lower abdomen, which makes you feel self-conscious. Many of our patients choose to have one after pregnancy, surgery involving the abdominal wall or significant weight loss.
You will consult with one of our plastic surgeons, who will advise you on the best surgical procedure to improve the appearance of your lower abdomen. You will discuss whether a mini tummy tuck or a full abdominoplasty will be best and whether liposuction will be required for optimal results.
Your cosmetic surgeon will take a complete medical history and check that you are healthy enough for a tummy tuck surgery.
The best surgical results are achieved on patients who are of healthy weight, and it is important to realise that a tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure.
We advise a few weeks of rest after a tummy tuck.
It is important not to strain the abdominal muscles, so the best course of action is a gradual return to normal activities and strenuous exercise.
Your surgeon will place the incision as low as possible in your pubic area.
Once the incision has healed, there may be a small scar, but it will be barely noticeable.
Your body profile will be sleeker, and your abdominal area will be tauter and smoother. You will find that clothes fit and look better.
The total cost of your tummy tuck will depend on the nature of your procedure and whether your surgeon has used liposuction.
Your cosmetic surgeon will confirm the cost of your tuck surgery at your consultation.
You can expect to pay from £8 495 for a full tummy tuck and from £5995 for a mini abdominoplasty.
