Medical Micro-Needling

Medical microneedling (also known as ‘derma rolling’) is an increasingly popular, clinically proven form of Collagen Induction Therapy and can be effective in the treatment of a wide range of skin conditions.

The derma rolling procedure is completely safe and works by stimulating the body’s natural regeneration and repair mechanisms.

Medical microneedling works by penetrating the dermis or mid dermis to enhance blood flow and encourage the production of new collagen cells. Thus, enhancing skin tone, texture, plumpness and radiance.

FAQ

  • what is medical micro-needling?

Medical microneedling, which is also known as derma rolling, is becoming an increasingly popular clinically proven form of Collagen Induction Therapy. This treatment can be effective in treating a wide range of skin conditions.

A medical dermaroller treatment is completely safe and works by stimulating the body’s natural regeneration and repair mechanism. This procedure works by penetrating the dermis or mid dermis to enhance blood flow, which encourages the production of new collagen cells.

As a result of this, a medical microneedling treatment works to enhance skin tone, texture, plumpness and radiance.

  • how does the treatment work?

During a derma rolling procedure, your practitioner will use a medical microneedling device to produce thousands of microscopic needle channels to the skin, approximately 0.1 mm in diameter and between 0.1 mm and 1.5 mm in depth.

The tiny punctures close very quickly, with their repair inducing the gradual formation of new collagen around the treatment site in a reaction called collagenesis.

The healing process following a derma rolling treatment also stimulates rapid growth of the thin layer of cells which line capillaries and blood vessels, in turn creating new capillaries for a better blood supply to the skin. It can take up to 6-weeks before visible signs of regeneration and rejuvenation are seen.

The derma rolling treatment process will continue over the following months, providing you with a natural and long-lasting enhancement and smoother, brighter, healthier skin.

  • how is the treatment carried out?

Prior to a medical dermaroller treatment, the skin is cleansed and an appropriate topical anaesthetic (numbing cream) is applied approximately 30 to 45 minutes prior to the procedure. Once the treatment area is anaesthetised, the medical microneedling device is passed back and forth over the skin, creating an even pattern of minute spots of pinprick bleeding.

Following the procedure, aftercare products are applied to promote healing. Written aftercare advice will be provided along with recommended home care products to ensure the best possible results are obtained.

  • what results should I expect?

The number of derma rolling treatments required will be determined by the practitioner at your initial consultation. However, it is normally recommended that your medical microneedling treatment is approached as a course and consists of a minimum of three sessions.

Following the advised course of treatment, fine lines, scarring and stretch marks will appear reduced. After a medical microneedling course of treatments, you should expect to see enhanced radiance, improved skin tone and texture, and plumper, healthier-looking skin.

As the treatment stimulates the natural cell turnover, we recommend a 6-week gap between treatments. The results after a course of treatment for acne scarring or stretch marks will be permanent. For skin rejuvenation, the results will last a minimum of 6 months.

The results of a course of medical microneedling are usually most visible between 1 and 3 months after the final treatment has been completed.

  • how does the treatment feel?

The skin is numbed prior to treatment with the application of a topical anaesthetic (numbing cream). As the derma rolling procedure begins, you will feel very little. As the treatment progresses slight sensitivity may return and you may begin to feel a slight prickling or warming sensation.

Your Aesthetic Therapist is aiming to achieve an even pattern of minute spots of pinprick bleeding which indicate that the procedure has been done effectively. The Aesthetic Therapist will continually check your comfort throughout the treatment.

  • is there any down time?

After the treatment your skin will be warm, red and tingly, several clients have likened the post-procedure sensation to mild sunburn. There can also be some mild swelling which may last up to 2 days. The treated area may become dry and sometimes flaky which can last between 2 and 7 days. After 1-3 weeks the skins texture and tone will show improvement and pigment will also change. After 6 weeks you will notice a reduction in the appearance of lines, wrinkles and scarring

What is a Deep Plane Face and Neck Lift?

Innovative approaches to rejuvenating the face have evolved over time and the deep plane facelift represents a significant development in the evolution of surgical facelifts.
