Mr James Smith

Consultant Plastic Surgeon | MBChB (Hons) | PGCME | MFSTEd | FRCS (Plast)

With a background in General Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Consultant Plastic Surgeon Mr James Smith is recognised as an authority in the specialist fields of Melanoma and Non-melanoma Skin Cancer. James joined the medical team at Coppergate Clinic in 2020 where he is pleased to offer patients a broad spectrum of plastic surgery including skin oncology, hand surgery and cosmetic procedures.

Alongside the surgery he performs here at the Clinic, James is a substantive Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. He is also a member of BAAPS, of Melanoma Focus and is on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery.

Professional experience

After graduating with honours at the University of Leeds in 2007, James completed his core surgical training in Bristol. During this time he completed a Post graduate Certificate in Medical Education at the University of Dundee. In 2016 James was awarded Membership of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of Edinburgh after demonstrating his ability to train and educate in a number of fields.

As part of his training James completed fellowships with Mr Ian Smith in Lower Limb and Sarcoma and with Mr Howard Peach in Skin Oncology. James has worked in several of the UK’s best Plastic Surgery Departments with some of the UK’s finest Plastic Surgeons including Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Frenchay Hospital (Bristol) and the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital.

James is passionate about teaching and education and has over 27 publications and 35 presentations in a broad spectrum of Plastic Surgery.
