What happens during a surgical procedure to reduce breast size?

Your surgeon will make an incision in the breast crease and another from the crease to the nipple. This technique is commonly used, but not the only technique used, and your surgeon will discuss the best approach for you and your anatomy at your initial consultation.

The incision will be used to remove excess breast tissue and fat. The remaining tissue will be remodelled to create smaller breasts with a more aesthetically pleasing shape. Your nipple will be relocated to a complementary position on your new breast shape.

When your breast surgery is complete, the incision is closed with dissolvable stitches.

Breast reduction surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and usually takes about two and a half hours.

How much downtime will I need after breast reduction surgery?

The complete healing process will take a few weeks.

Initially, your breasts will be swollen and sore, but simple pain relief will be sufficient to manage your discomfort.

We ask our patients to wear a support bra for the first few weeks post-surgery to support the tissues and promote healing.

Most patients can begin gentle exercise after a couple of weeks, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for up to six weeks post-surgery.

You will have follow-up appointments at the clinic to check on your progress.

Is breast reduction surgery safe?

Any surgical procedure involves risks, and breast reduction surgery is no different.

Potential risks include bruising, bleeding and delayed wound healing. Breast reduction also carries the risk of changes in nipple sensation.

However, patient safety is our priority, and we take great care to ensure smooth and rapid healing for all our patients.

Am I a good candidate for a breast reduction?

You may be a good candidate for this procedure if your large breasts are causing physical discomfort or affecting your emotional well-being and self-confidence.

Before deciding on surgery, you will have an initial consultation with a consultant plastic surgeon.

This is your opportunity to discuss your concerns and learn more about the breast reduction procedure.

Your surgeon will advise you on what a breast reduction could achieve for you, but will also explain the potential risks.

We ensure our patients are fully informed about the breast reduction procedure, as realistic expectations increase patient satisfaction.

What will my new breasts look like after reduction surgery?

At first, your breasts will be swollen, and there will be an inverted T scar on your chest.

However, the swelling will soon subside, and the scarring will heal and fade. Your breasts will start to feel softer, and their new, improved shape and size will become visible.

How much does breast reduction cost near Manchester?

Breast reduction surgery prices start at £ 9,495. However, this is only an indicative cost as every procedure is tailored to the patient’s anatomy and your desired outcome.
