The deep plane facelift technique is an advanced surgical procedure frequently performed at our luxurious cosmetic surgery clinic near Manchester.

What is a Deep Plane Facelift?

A deep plane facelift is the gold standard in facial rejuvenation and it takes the traditional facelift one step further.

Excess skin is removed, and muscles are made tauter, as in a traditional facelift. However, the ligaments supporting the superficial musculoaponeurotic system are also released, allowing the skin and deeper tissues to be lifted rather than stretched. This technique does not create tension between the superficial and deeper layers resulting in much smoother results that do not restrict facial expressions. The deeper facial tissue is also remodelled and fat/salivary gland removal is performed to sculpt and recontour the features nowhere necessary.

In skilled hands, the deep plane facelift can restore facial definition and lost volume, giving a smooth and refreshed appearance that lasts longer than the traditional facelift procedure.

Will I also need a neck lift?

The deeper structures of the face are connected to those of the neck, so the deep plane facelift extended into the neck  significantly improves loose skin under the chin and slack neck muscles, paying particular attention to the platysmal bands.

Smooth facial and neck contours can be restored in one procedure rather than two, resulting in more balanced, longer lasting  and streamlined results.

Will I still look like myself after facelift surgery?

Yes, you will. Our founder, Mr Nick Rhodes, is an outstanding surgeon committed to natural-looking results.

Every deep plane facelift performed at the Coppergate Clinic leaves patients with a rejuvenated appearance, simply looking like a fresher, younger version of themselves.

Am I a good candidate for lift surgery using the deep plane technique?

This type of facelift surgery may suit you if you are a male or female patient concerned about mild to severe facial ageing.

The deep plane facelift addresses sagging contours on the cheeks, mid- and lower face, neck, and jaw. If you want facial rejuvenation in these areas, the deep plane facelift may be for you.

Patients need to be in good general health for any invasive procedure, and your surgeon will take a complete medical history before recommending deep plane facelift surgery.

The consultation process

Before advising you on the most appropriate surgical solution, your surgeon will examine your facial anatomy and discuss your options and the likely outcome of surgery.

Although our talented surgical team consistently produces stunning results, patients must be realistic about what can be achieved with surgery. Your surgeon will also explain the recovery process.

Is surgery the only way to achieve facial rejuvenation?

We are always honest with patients and if we think that surgical intervention is not appropriate we will advise against it.

Sometimes younger patients consult us regarding a facelift when the results that they want could be achieved through the use of non-invasive techniques.

Coppergate Clinic offers a range of non-surgical procedures and we will refer patients to our colleagues who specialise in these treatments where necessary.

How is a deep plane facelift performed?

Deep plane facelifts are performed using sedation or a general anaesthetic and take four or more hours.

Discreet surgical incisions are made along the hairline and in front of the ears. Your surgeon will use these incisions to release the facial ligaments and access the underlying structures of the face.

Once the lift surgery is completed your wounds will be closed with sutures.

How long does it take to recover from a face lift?

Most patients return home the day of surgery or stay in the locality so their progress can be monitored.

As with all surgical procedures, deep plane facelifts cause swelling and bruising, and pain relief is provided to manage discomfort which is minimal.

Your sutures will be removed 7 to 10 days after your facelift surgery but the entire healing process will take a few weeks.

We advise our Manchester patients to book at least two weeks off work and to avoid strenuous exercise for up to 6 weeks.

Are the benefits of facelift surgery permanent?

A deep plane facelift will turn back your facial appearance by 7 to fifteen years, but it cannot stop time.

Your face will continue to age, and some Manchester patients choose to have further cosmetic procedures in the future.

By taking care of your skin, you can preserve the benefits of your facelift surgery for as long as possible. This means avoiding sun exposure and following a careful skin care regimen.

Combining deep plane surgery with other cosmetic procedures

Some of our Manchester patients choose total facial rejuvenation by combining their deep plane facelift with other cosmetic procedures.

Eyelid lift surgery to remove eye bags or correct hooded eyes is a popular addition as the deep plane facelift does not target the eye area.

Other popular procedures performed at the Coppergate Clinic include the brow lift , rhinoplasty (nose job) and lip lift surgery.

Where skin quality is an issue clients often add a full face and neck CO2 laser resurfacing to their treatment at the same time of surgery .

More about Manchester

The area now known as Manchester has been a significant occupation centre since the Romans built a fort in AD79 at the junction of the Medlock and Irwell Rivers.

In the nineteenth century, the small town of Manchester suddenly grew into the world’s first industrialised city due to worldwide demand for the cotton textiles produced. This development was further fuelled by the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal in 1894, giving the city traders access to the Irish Sea and the Atlantic.

In the middle of the twentieth century, the city’s fortunes changed, and it is now known as a cultural centre rather than a manufacturing city.

Music is an important part of the Manchester story and the city has been the birthplace of bands like Oasis, The Stone Roses and The Smiths.

Manchester was the host city for the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
