What is breast uplift surgery?

A breast uplift is a cosmetic surgery procedure that addresses loose skin and sagging breasts.

During breast lift surgery, excess skin is removed, and the breast tissue is reshaped. The position of the breasts on the chest is elevated for a more youthful appearance, and the nipples are repositioned.

Our Manchester patients are always delighted with their new breast shape.

Reasons for choosing breast lift surgery

Breasts change throughout life for a variety of reasons.

Weight changes

The skin of the breasts may not spring back after weight loss. If it has been overstretched, the skin may remain lax, causing droopy breasts. This is common after pregnancy and breastfeeding, when the breasts increase in size considerably.

Menopause

After menopause, breast tissue becomes less dense and loses its firmness. At the same time, the skin loses its strength and elasticity and can no longer support the breast tissue, leading to droopy breasts.

If life events have significantly changed the shape or size of your breasts and affected your self-confidence, why not book an initial consultation with a consultant plastic surgeon at our clinic near Manchester?

What happens during breast uplift surgery?

Before you have uplift surgery, your plastic surgeon will have discussed your new breast shape in detail to ensure that your boob lift creates the desired results. When you arrive for your surgical procedure, your breast will be marked up to ensure that the incision sites and final position of your breast are correct.

Firstly, your surgeon will make an incision around the areola and then another from the areola to the natural crease under the breast.

The incision will be used to access the breast tissue, which will be remodeled and repositioned to create the desired shape. Excess skin is trimmed away, and excess fat is removed.

The nipples will be repositioned to complement your new breast shape. Finally, the incisions will be closed with dissolvable stitches.

Breast lift surgery takes around 90 to 120 minutes and is performed under general anaesthetic.

How long does it take Manchester patients to recover from a mastopexy?

Initially, your breasts will feel sore, and, as with any surgical procedure, there will be some swelling and minor bruising for the first couple of weeks. You will need to wear a support bra for at least 6 weeks after surgery to support your tissues.

Swelling and tenderness will gradually resolve, and many patients return to work after 10 to 14 days if they are in a desk-bound role.

You should avoid strenuous activity for at least 6 weeks, and your consultant plastic surgeon will advise you when you can play sports and go to the gym again.

Between 6 and 12 months, all puffiness will have disappeared, and the incision scars will have faded considerably. The improved shape and position of your breasts will be visible, and you will be delighted with your new figure.

Am I a good candidate for a breast lift?

If you are concerned about sagging breasts, then you may be a good candidate for breast uplift surgery.

Your consultant plastic surgeon will discuss the following with you at your consultation to help you make a decision.

Your health

Patients should be in good health before any surgical procedure to ensure a smooth, successful recovery. We always take a full medical history before recommending surgery to our Manchester patients.

Your weight

If you are planning to lose weight, you should do so before your breast uplift surgery. Losing weight after the procedure may mean that your breasts will change again, requiring further intervention.

Your plans for a family

We advise our Manchester patients to have breast lift surgery after they have finished having children, as further pregnancies will change the shape of the breasts again.
